Habitation checks: frequently asked questions
What is a motorhome habitation check?
A habitation check tests the living area of your motorhome or campervan: the gas system, 12V electrics, water system, water and space heaters, fridge, cooker, hob and grill, ventilation, windows, doors, smoke and CO alarms, fire extinguisher and toilet, plus a full damp report.
How long does a habitation check take?
A motorhome habitation check usually takes about 2 hours.
Why do I need a habitation check?
The appliances in your motorhome need regular testing to make sure they run safely and efficiently. A habitation check is often a condition of your insurance, and it is easy to overlook when the vehicle is in regular use on the road.
Do I need to bring my motorhome or campervan to you?
No. We are a mobile service, so we come to your home or storage site anywhere in Cheshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire, and further afield if required.
Can you carry out a habitation check while my motorhome is under warranty?
Yes. We are a member of the Approved Workshop Scheme (AWS), so we can service your motorhome or campervan while it is still under warranty. Sean is also trained and approved to carry out warranty work on Alde, Thetford, Truma, Powrtouch and Reich products.
Will I get a report?
Yes. You get a full damp report, and reports are emailed to you for your records once they have been discussed with you and signed.
Is your work guaranteed?
Yes. All our work is guaranteed for 6 months.
Who carries out the work?
All work is carried out by Sean Powell AAE MIMI, a Level 3 motor vehicle technician with over 30 years in the industry. Sean holds the NCC Combined Service Award and the STGW gas qualification, is an Approved Workshop Scheme (AWS) mobile workshop and MCEA member, and is fully insured.
When are you available and how do I book?
